Restorative Yoga and Poetic Medicine : An Embodied Poetry Reading

January 20, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Your body and spirit will sing with joy at this new way of experiencing poetry. Instead of sitting in one position and ignoring the signals of your body, you will be guided into a variety of gentle yoga postures with ample props to support full relaxation. While in each of these shapes, a poem will be offered and you are invited to either listen fully or allow the rhythm and cadence of the poetry to wash over you. Included are poems by Rumi, Rilke, John O’Donohue, Hafiz, Mary Oliver, and more.
About the facilitaors:
Mary Ellen is a poetry therapist & single mother living with five children in an beloved old farmhouse in southern Appalachia. She is certified in Poetic Medicine, was awarded recognition as a 2016 Resilient Woman Leader of the Year by Asheville Resilient Women’s foundation, and has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize in Poetry.
A bookworm growing up in the jungles of Hawaii, Mado found her way into her body through martial arts. Yoga was at first a way to balance out the training of the martial arts and quickly became her primary movement love. Now she balances the sweetness of yoga with the strength and intensity of crossfit, and seeks out a variety of embodied movement experiences. Mado is a IAYT certified Yoga Therapist and a Certified Yoga Tune Up Teacher.
